What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles are caused by a combination of collagen loss, skin laxity, and repetitive facial movements. Together these factors create the perfect environment for lines and folds to become more prominent. As we age, our bodies lose elastin and collagen, which keep our skin hydrated, firm, and elastic. With repeated facial expressions over time, it becomes harder and harder for our skin to resort back to an “expressionless” state.

As a result of aging skin, crow’s feet and frown lines eventually develop, and nasolabial folds become more prominent.

What are crow’s feet?

Crow’s feet, also known as laugh or smile lines, are the lines around the outer corner of the eye. These lines appear typically in our early 30s (or earlier without an effective skin care regimen). These inevitable lines appear as we age.

What are frown lines?

Also known as glabellar lines or the 11s, frown lines are the creases between the brows. Often these unwanted lines also appear above the brow and around the eyes.

What are the nasolabial folds?

The nasolabial folds are deep lines located between the corners of the mouth and the nose. As we lose volume in our face, these folds become more prominent and noticeable.
